….. and many happy returns Team member in the Far East …..
..… 21 again.
In the lab the tilt and roll sensor has evolved into a fully built PCB that is in the process of being tested, which includes flashing the diagnostic lights that indicate its status and what its doing. This might be considered our equivalent of birthday candles!
Packing for the next instrumentation shipment is well underway, in fact nearly complete, as collection is a week today, and all the paperwork, certification, licences and so on needs to be in place well in advance.
The shipping container as it currently is.
What is lined up to go in next.
The lab is full of boxes being packed which get inserted between layers of instrumentation racks so that every inch of available space in the container is used.
The new flotation, inspected, holes drilled and the metal lifting brackets attached.
And the all important vacuum grease – can’t do an ocean-bottom seismograph cruise without this stuff – applied in moderation to the O’rings seals to make sure they slide in the grooves in the metal end caps of the pressure vessels rather than snagging and tearing.
And perhaps one of the most important things. Apart from the Boss who is a coffee addict – the Team runs on tea, and not just any old tea – PG Tips tea.
The container will also contain a type of lithium battery that is regarded as a hazardous material by agencies that govern road haulage, sea freight and air freight, so that requires us to complete a dangerous good notice as well, and our shipping agent then has to arrange the road haulage to the shipping line’s base using a lorry driver with the appropriate licence. So our agent needs notice to do that as there doesn’t seem to be that many suitably licensed lorry drivers!
Elsewhere, Spring has sprung on the Boss’ windowsill. We wonder what this is going to be?
